Formula One in Singapore

It was announced in May 2007 that Singapore will be part of the Formula One(F1) World Championship 2008. A piece of great news for F1 fans in Singapore who have yet to watch it live. According to the organizer, they have targeted 100,000 ticketed spectators so grab your calendar and mark the date on 28th September 2008 for F1. The highly anticipated event will not only draw spectators like F1 fans but also photography enthusiast, traveling tourist from overseas and not to forget our dear citizens who love to join the fun.

Ferrari The track which will soon be part of Singapore’s F1 history will be approximately 5km around Marina Bay. What sets apart the track around Marina Bay apart from the likes of Circuit de Monaco from France or Sepang International Circuit from Malaysia? Singapore Street Circuit, official name for the track, will be 1 of the 3 tracks that actually makes drivers like Kimi Räikkönen from Ferrari,Nick Heidfeld from BMW Sauber or Fernando Alonso from McLaren to drive in an anti clockwise direction. It is designed with delicate specifications along safety so that the narrowest part of the track will be even wider then the widest part of Circuit de Monaco. It is also officially announced that the race in Singapore will held in the night for the first time in history of F1. Spectators can expect the cars move at top speed of up to 300kmh along Raffles Boulevard and decreasing the speed once they reach the corners in just a split seconds.

It is not only the F1 race teams having challenges but everyone else. Photographers including me have to start practicing shooting fast moving objects in the night otherwise the car will be gone even before I can press my shutter. Hotels around Marina Bay will have to start planning if they need to change their windows to double-glazed windows. The deafening roar from the engines will be a good deal of noise pollution. An advise for traveling tourist to Singapore during the period, do avoid staying in hotels around Marina Bay. Otherwise for all F1 fans, save up and get ready for the sales of the tickets starting mid of December this year!
