Geographical and Demographics of Singapore
Looking for a country to travel in Asia? Singapore is definitely the ideal choice. Her geographical position makes her one of the busiest ports in the world. Lying just north of the equator, the occurrence of natural disasters is almost zero, making it one of the safest countries to visit. It would be a once in a blue moon occasion when Singapore experiences the wrath of
Mother Nature due to the earthquakes originating from Indonesia. However, there is no reason for panic or any deterrence from visiting this wonderful country.Singapore enjoys a tropical climate where the air is warm and humid earning her the name Sunny Singapore. For those visitors from temperate climates, be prepared to perspire when you visit Singapore. I will strongly advise visitors to pack light and cooling attire when visiting Singapore as the temperature can reach as high as 33 degree Celsius in the day and as low as 25 degree Celsius in the night. This might be one of the many reasons why the Singapore government has planted so many trees and plants along the roads to provide shade for pedestrians. For those who dislike the heat and sun, Singapore is well cooled with the help of air conditioning in shops, hotels, skyscrapers and restaurants so don’t let the weather stop you from experiencing the beauty of Singapore. Sun lovers must make a trip down to Sentosa for a good tan on the beautiful beaches. However, there are also plenty other attractions not to be missed like the Underwater World, Songs of the Sea and many more which I will introduce in my future postings. Do keep a lookout for them because you will not want to miss the fun!
If you have the opportunity to visit Singapore, do take a good look of the multi racial society. You will see various ethnic groups working together harmoniously in this urban city. The population consists of
- 77% Chinese,
- 14% Malays,

Given the majority of Chinese in the Singapore population; you can easily guess that Mandarin is one of the most commonly used languages here. The other 2 official languages are Malay and Tamil used by Malays and Indians respectively. Malay, however, is Singapore’s national language as the original inhabitants of this island were Malay fishermen. Due to the varied ethnicity, a diverse set of religions accompanied. With a small population of just 4.5millions people, Singapore has successfully gained constant limelight from the international stage with its great communication network, transportation system, diverse cultural mix and many more.
