Changi Airport Terminal 3 Sneak Preview
It is 66 more days to 9th January 2008, the official opening day of Singapore Changi International Airport Terminal 3 when they will receive their very first flight. The state of art terminal cost SGD$1.75 billion to build and is expected to handle 22 million passengers a year and that is almost 5 times of Singapore’s population.T3’s roof is covered with 919 computerized skylights which will adjust to the sunlight coming through creating a soft natural lighting within the terminal. Comprising of 8 large aircraft A380 gates and 20 regular aircraft gates, you can definitely expect T3 to be big! Nevertheless, the building is carefully designed and crafted to guide both visitors and Singaporeans upon their arrival. Thus, you have no need to be afraid of being lost in this gigantic building. Also, gone are the days where you will not be seeing your love ones once they check-in into the transit area or anxiously looking for your friends and family when they arrive in Singapore. All walls are made of glass, so now you can catch a glimpse of what is happening in the transit area, departure drop off area and even the arrival immigration through the glass walls.
Singapore Changi International Airport Terminal 3 is a miniature representation of Singapore giving tourists a short introduction to this beautiful country. Natural greenery has been brought into the terminal and can be seen everywhere within the building corresponding with the Singapore’s garden city title. A massive 300 meters long vertical tropical greens forming up a spectacular waterfall can also be seen anywhere in the land side of the terminal. Luggage collection area will probably become yet another popular spot for photo-taking as the sculptured sandstone art walls bearing words of “Welcome to Singapore” in different languages act as perfect backdrop.
I can’t emphasize any more on the magnificence of the terminal especially with a whopping 25,000 squares meters catered to shopping. From what I saw, the shopping area is basically divided into 2 sections, the luxury and the affordable shopping. Don’t be surprised that you have already started spending the moment you land in Singapore or leaving for another country. As for transit travelers, accommodation will never be a problem with the opening of Crowne Plaza which is directly next to T3. You can expect a whole lot more then just a room with facilities like restaurants, meeting rooms and even swimming pool easily available in the hotel.
So the story at T3 is as follows…
Taking the new sky train system to Changi Airport Terminal 3.
It seems that nobody is coming into Singapore in T3 for today.
Not yet anyway!
Now, I see what they meant by the “green waterfall”.
Do they really move?
Time to check in our luggage!
My oh my, who actually checked-in those luggage?
It seems that I am able to see this “waterfall” from any angle.
I will be back.
Let me try using this automated gantry.
Grab a drink at the cafe which will be run by the Fullerton Hotel before boarding.
Free movies? I guess it is not a bad idea to check in early with free movies in the airport.
Let’s check my flight timing again. I wouldn’t want to miss my flight.
Free internet access… Perhaps it good idea to check on my hotel bookings.
How long do you think I will take to walk till the end?
Why? Why do they have to do a body check on me? Do I have a criminal face?
Sit back and relax with the beautiful scenery.
I need the gents! Oh my … Must be the drinks from the cafe just now.
Hygiene is of utmost important after SARS.
France is a beautiful country but home sweet home, Singapore.
Where is my luggage?
Almost forget my odd size luggage!
A beautiful backdrop for a nice photo before heading home.
Dragging my luggage to the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) in T2 for home!
As for the public who wish to see what T3 is all about, there will be a open house of T3 as follows.
